The stories Debra tells in her works are the same stories that her sisters, Nellie and Elizabeth Marks often depict. Debra’s style is much neater and defined. Debra represents the women travelling across the country in her paintings with traditional iconography. Concentric circles are used to represent sacred women’s sites while linear patterns emerging from these circles represent the women travelling from sacred site to sacred site. The women teach the children how to survive in the bushland of her home country by collecting bush food, medicines and where to find water soakage. These traditions are alive and well today and Debra is extremely proud of her culture and heritage.
