Betty Wanduk

Betty Wanduk is a talented weaver who comes from Maningrida in Arhnem Land, Top End NT. Her weaving is crafted by hand in the traditional ways that have been handed down from generation to generation for millennia. Using Pandanus leaves, the fibre is created by stripping the leaf and rubbing it together to create a thick string. These strings are then colored using pigment from different roots, coloured soil, fruits and berries before the item is crafted. She creates Sunmats, Dilly Bags and Shelters from these materials.
Betty is a strong member of the weavers from Central Arnhemland and attends the weaver’s conference held in Darwin Annually. Bettys work is very populular with collectors and visitors to Darwin and she has been featured in many group exhibitions of work from this area. Her most recent exhibition was at Tacit Galleries in Collingwood in early 2019.
