This piece is Damien’s depiction of the Sand hills, Rocky Outcrops and Rockholes around his home country. The sand hills are important to people living in the desert as they are home to an abundance of reptiles, small marsupials, birds and plant life. The rock holes will attract these animals and they are hunted around these sites.
Kalimpinpa is a large rock hole that is considered sacred in this area. It is very deep and runs under the ground. The men will form a line down into the rock hole and pass buckets of water back along the line.
