Gracie Ward was born at Papunya in 1973 and is the daughter of George Ward Tjungurrayi and Nyungawarra Ward Napurrulla. The family relocated to Docker River and later to Warakurna, where she commenced her schooling. In 2004, Gracie was taught her mother and father how to paint the stories she had grown up listening to. in those early years, her works resembled the typical Pintupi dot paintings, using very neat and precise dots to tell these stories. With some encouragement from top end artist, Helen McCarthy ine 2009, Gracie started to experiment with a palette of much bolder colours. Gracie Ward Napaltjarri has a son and two daughters and spends her time between Warakurna and Alice Springs.
Usually, her paintings are about her Grandmothers traditional lands, Muntati. This is the country that women go to when they perform traditional “Women’s Business”.
