Australian Aboriginal Art by Sherelle Wirri

121cm x 61cm
SWI001

This up and coming young artist has the benefit of being taught the stories of her country from her mother, Debra Young, as well as her aunties Lorraine and Katherine. These ladies grew up living a traditional life and were part of the early women’s art movement. Their mother (Sherelle’s Grandmother) was Walankura Napanangka, who was one of the most renowned artists of this period. Her works were a multi textured expression of the traditional stories that are still depicted by Sherelle Wirri today.

Tjintjintjin is a women’s ceremony site, which is located to the West of Kintore in the Western part of the Central Australian Desert. Her style is reminiscent of her family member, however she chooses to use a much bolder and more modern palette of colour to depict these stories.
