Julieanne Turner Nungarrayi was born at Mt Allen in 1972 and paints stories associated with the Warlpiri women of Yuelumu (just outside of Yuendumu Community approximately 3 hours from Alice Springs in Central Australia) and its surrounds. These stories have been passed on to Julieanne by her elders and her talent for depicting these stories in her artworks has been inherited from her mother, well-known Warlpiri artist, Maureen Hudson Nampitjinpa. She began painting these works in 1992 as a teenager and has developed her distinctive style over the years since under the tutelage of Maureen and other female family members.
Her works are bright, vibrant depictions of these stories and includes Sand Dunes, Budgerigar and Bush Onion among others. Her delicate dotting style paired with the use of traditional iconography, allows the artist to create a modern representation of these themes as well as giving her work a traditional feel that lovers of Australian Aboriginal Art still find so appealing.
Julieanne spends most of her time in Adelaide, having relocated there to provide schooling opportunities for her children, although she regularly returns to Central Australia, where she spends time in Alice Springs and Yuelumu.
